Amala Cancer Research Centre Societyis an independent research organization registered in 1984 under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act,   1955   with the aim   “to undertake scientific research in the area of cancer and other related branches of medical sciences both basic and applied fields”. The Centre has been recognized by Dept. of Scientific
and Industrial Research (DSIR). The Society has approval under 35(1) (ii) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

The Centre is managed by a Chairman, Managing Director,Research Director and Associate Directors and the research work co-ordination is done by the Research Director under the guidance of Research Advisory Council (RAC).

The control and administration are vested with the Executive Committee and Governing Body. These bodies consist of eminent scientists, educationalists, administrators and social activists from several Institutions from inside and outside Kerala.

The Centre has well equipped laboratories for Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Immunology, Radiobiology and Microbiology to carry out outstanding  research works in cancer.  Central funding   agencies such as Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Dept. of Biotechnology (DBT), Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) and Kerala funding agency, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) have provided project grants to the Centre from 1984 onwards. The Centre with its remarkable facility and expertise in cancer research has shown its excellence since its inception..

The Centre has an Animal house licensed by CPCSEA, and maintained as per the norms of Institutional Animal Ethical Committee constituted for the purpose.

The Centre is also approved for Radiobiological Research studies by AERB.

Amala Cancer Research Centre is also recognized by University of Calicut,  Mahatma Gandhi University,  and Kerala University for Health and Allied Sciences (KUHS)   for Ph. D programme. A total of 105 students  have beenalready awarded Ph. D degree through the Centre. At present, the Centre has 7 Scientist faculties and 20 scholars enrolled for Ph. D degree.
