Synopsis submitted to the University of Calicut for the Registration. Title of work: Studies on antioxidant, antitumor and anti- inflammatory properties of phytochemicals extracted from Indigoferatinctoria L. Phytochemicals are chemical constituents that contribute to different activities of plants. Cancer chemoprevention with natural phytochemical compounds is an emerging strategy to prevent, impede, delay, or cure cancer and several studies investigating the active phytochemical components in plants have been reported. But these studies have predominantly been carried out using the crude plant extracts. In the therapeutic field, or in the practical drug administration session, it will not be possible to give such crude extracts for patients, especially in chronic diseases like cancer. This is mainly because the crude extracts will contain many phytochemicals, which will have varied activities. So, treatment using fractions enriched in specific phytochemicals may prove to be advantageous. My study focuses on exploring the bio-active potential of phytochemical constituents isolated from I. tinctoria, also known as True indigo.
